Sunday 20th July - Mongol rally kick off
It's the big day, we get up early and head back to Battersea park for the official 2014 Mongol Rally launch. After queuing up in our car, we were called up to the podium for the official send off. Nye from the Adventurists made a crap joke about our team name and then we were off. However, unlike other teams we first turned our attention west and headed the opposite direction to Mongolia, to Wales, to get our V5 sorted in person. Along the way we stopped off to check out one of the. UK's most famous attractions, the impressive Stonehenge. Following a few happy snaps we got back on the road and head to Cardiff for the night as we'd heard about its party reputation.
We check into one of the backpackers on the Main Street in Cardiff and decided to have a power nap before heading out. Brooke cannot be coxed out of bed so Steve and Craig head out and look for a suitable venue. After having dinner on a rooftop at a microbrewery we find a place with a live band playing and head to the bar to order some drinks, to find jäger bombs are £1 each and double shot mixed spirits are £2 each. Suffice to say, our night escalated quickly and ended with Craig waking up in someones boat in the Cardiff docks.
Saturday 19th July - 1 Day to Launch
We arrive in London at 3am and have a quick nap before jumping back in the car for the 3 hour drive to Swansea to visit the DVLA office in a last ditch effort to obtain a V5 before the rally kicks off on Saturday. Unfortunately we find out half way there that only the call centre is open on a Saturday and not the office itself. The apologetic DVLA staff recommend we come back on Monday so we head to our new hotel near Battersea Park to get ready for the launch party.
We are greeted at Battersea Park by an ocean of crappy rally cars, all decked out in their own unique styles. While we look for a park someone bursts out of nowhere and starts screaming at us and pursuing our car like a drunk terminator. To our surprise we find is Ian from the Bag of Cats Mongol Rally 2013 team and his girlfriend Leah is not far behind. Reunions continue throughout the night with Alex, Ruby, Sam, Will and his GF joining us for the festivities.
